The riding of Portland extends from Belleview Avenue and Bridge Street area at the bottom of Main Street through to the area referred to as North End including what was originally known as Portland.  Also included in this riding are the areas known as Crescent Valley, Ragged Point and Millidgeville ending with Westmount Drive.  This is a riding of huge contrasts, it houses some of the highest paid professionals in the city and also has the region with the highest poverty rate.  Points of interest in this riding include UNBSJ, Cherry Brook Zoo, Rockwood Park, Public Gardens, Canada Games Stadium, Saint John Power Boat Club and the Kennebecasis Yacht Club.  The  original name of the area was the City of Portland which amalgamated with Saint John in 1889.

At home he enjoyed gardening and raised pigs to supplement the family food supply and and for neighbors as well. Lisa’s father passed away on October15, 1990 after a courageous battle with lung cancer.

The Canaan Pentecostal Church played a large part in Lisa’s life as she was growing up. Originally founded by four area women one of which was Lisa’s mother Bertha and another her Aunt Joan Cromwell, the first services were often held in each of the families homes. Money was finally raised so that they could purchase a piece of land and old schoolhouse, which they painted and fixed upwith wooden benches and used until funds were available to build the church which now sits in its place.

Lisa attend Coles Island Elementary and she graduated from Chipman High in 1986 from the Commercial /Business Department. During her senior year Lisa was priviledged to have been able to acquire a year of Law, where torts often provided excellent topics for exciting debates. Shortly after graduating, Lisa married Jame White who was a chef/cook at UNB in Fredericton and on March 5 1988 gave birth to their daughter Erica-Lea Theresa White.

Lisa graduated from Atlantic Business College in 1995. She was employed by St. Dunstains in Fredericton’s South Side until its closure and was retained by District 17 & 18 in a secretarial capacity for a number of departments. Lisa also worked for the 911- Department of Canada Post during the address changes in NB. In 2001 Lisa became employed by Wave 1, the new President choice/CIBC Call Center as a customer associate. Lisa was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and suffered a minor stroke which made her aware that she had to make some health choices in her life. She has included more walking and exercise in her life style.

Lisa decided to relocate to Saint John and chose the North End of the city for her new home. She appreciates the closeness of Rockwood Park and Lily Lake for the walking trails and exercise they provide. She has also taken advantage of the community garden across from Lily Lake.. Lisa says being raised in the country leaves its mark on you. It’s a need to commune with nature and a compulsion to plant things and watch them grow. You will undoubtedly see her out walking and campaigning throughout the election. She always seems to be smiling and ready to say hello or strike up a conversation. She often is dressed in purple, which is the party colour.
